With the new football season starting in earnest, Barcelona’s major focus this time out will be to win the UEFA Champions League. This comes after they have seen their rivals, Real Madrid win the trophy three times in a row, a record for the tournament. Barca’s domestic success has seen them win La Liga several times in recent years and they want to transfer this good form to the Champions League.
The way that their recent campaigns in the Champions League have panned out have been disappointing and the Catalan clubs know they need to do better to take things up to Madrid’s level.
In the seasons Barca have won the Champions League, there has been one major name dominating the headlines and that is of course El-Puga, Lionel Messi. The Argentine talisman will be spearheading Barca’s attack and will hope that his side can go all out and win this season’s trophy.
Messi has also stated it clearly that he is keen on ensuring they win the Champions League this season that that is their main target, while still retaining their domestic dominance.
The fact that Ronaldo has left Madrid could also help Barcelona to win the Champions League, especially given his stuttering start for Juve.
Of course, domestic league games are important but the fact that Ousmane Dembele and Suarez play behind him should help to keep Messi fresh for the Champions League. This season is supposed to be Barca’s season and failure to win the Champions League could just mean Messi has won his last Ballon d’Or.
